Welcome to the Ann Arbor (MI) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated! It is with great pride and excitement that I invite you to learn more about our Chapter and how we have been serving Washtenaw County, Michigan since 1979. As a professional women’s volunteer service organization we are committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The strength of our Chapter has been in collaboration with other organizations to meet the unique needs of our community.
Please take a moment to explore our website and learn more about these partnerships, such as:
- Partnership with a Washtenaw Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative to fund the Washtenaw County Imagination Library is that provides free books monthly to children from birth to age five living in the 48197 and 48198 zip codes to develop necessary language and literacy skills in the children before they start kindergarten. Over 1,000 children are currently being served through this program.
- Partnership with The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Mid-Michigan affiliate of Susan G. Komen to hosts a free “Hats and High Tea” during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
- Collaboration with the Ann Arbor District Library, Ypsilanti District Library and local community centers in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti to implement a summer reading program for elementary school-aged children as one of the components of the Chapter’s comprehensive Achievement Gap plan to reach children of all ages.
- Joint sponsorship, with Ann Arbor graduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, of an annual “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” dinner event that introduces girls and teens to different professions.
Our website also includes information about our Chapter’s history, our members, and previews upcoming events.
